hehehe thanks! Yup, the land is owned by the airport and a big-box shopping center is suitably low for a location so close to the airfield as planes come in and out.
In San Jose, CA, there is a general aviation airport that drew a lot of flack from a commissioner whose husband was a developer. The Commission okayed the building of a mall close off the end of the main runway. Perhaps a plane would land on the roof of the mall and they could close the airport. Guess what? Indeed, a Cessna 172 landed on the mall roof, but alas, the FAA nixed the Commission's attempt to close the airport. It seems that airports are much more valuable to public safety than malls.
Hahaha yes. LVB is next to the airport, we have a lot of GA facilities on that side. This Walmart is in the east side of the strip.
And yes, I can tell you how tight it can be in the skies over Vegas. And I imagine it would be similar in San Jose. I’m not surprised the FAA held a hard line against closing the facility.
Loved these, and once you told about the airport next to the mall, that lovely piece made sense to me. I was hooked on the blue tail.

Isn't McCarran Airport located just to the side of the Strip?
