Sensitive and powerful in just a few words. Thank you so much for your heart in the current harsh circumstances.

Yes. That was a tough email to write. It felt so dang cold. The one thing I didn't realize in joining the government was the amount of churn in management compared to private practice in small firms.

Which makes sense when I think about it....as a democratic society, there will be regular changes in leadership. And those folks will want their own subordinates to manage key agencies (we had a 1.3 Billion dollar capital improvement budget for 2023-2025).

In five and a half years I've had 3 Governors (elected), 4 Department Directors (direct appointees), and 3.5 Division Administrators (one was fired and then unfired, only to be retired a couple years later).

The endless layers of complexity and constant number-tweaking. Ugh. It’s good to know that people like you are part of the system too, though. There’s always hope for subtle humanizing change.

I constantly remind myself and those around me that we work for the citizens of the state who pay for everything that we're doing. Otherwise it's easy to be get caught up in the intricacies of the moment and forget who we serve.
