By day, I'm a Quality Technician in a large manufacturing environment. This amuses my wife because the job requires a lot of coordination and planning, characteristics that were not included in my firmware version. I have adopted other people's organizational models and had to carve out the shit that didn't work for me. It sounds like you took the same approach.

My capture process is virtually identical to yours, with the addition of post-it notes. They are a plague of biblical proportion but they are so handy when I'm at work and I need a reminder. I'd like to give them up, but Jesus, they are the perfect solution.

Huge Sherman Alexie fan. His brutal honesty and willingness to permit the reader access to his fragile psyche is heroic. I'm going to check out Elissa and George on your recommendation.

haha...yeah! Noone teaches productivity - not that I'm a guru like Cal Newport or David Allen, but I like to think I'm pretty good at it nowadays after wasting all that time reading about work hacks (if only keep 5% of their suggestions and ditch the rest). I enjoy CGP Grey and Myke Hurley's Cortex podcast, but good lord they are obsessive about productivity. Then again, they push out great work so maybe they're onto something.

I'm not sure why post-it notes never clicked with me...my deputy administrator loves them as well! My boy has burnt through more post it notes around the house than I've used in my career!

Have fun with Elissa and George!
